How to Say the Seasons in Haitian Creole

Beginner Lesson

What You Will Learn

In this lesson, you will learn how to say the four seasons in Haitian Creole.

Because Haiti has a tropical climate, Haitians may refer more often to specific months or to rainy and dry periods than to the four temperate seasons.

For example, when discussing the weather in Haiti, it may be clearer to refer to janvye (January) rather than simply saying livè (winter). However, the four-season terms are still useful when discussing other countries and climates.

The four seasons in Haitian Creole are prentan, lete, lotòn, and livè.

Consider These Examples

1. Nan sezon prentan, gen bèl flè. → There are pretty flowers in spring.

2. Nan sezon lete, gen gwo lapli. → There is heavy rain in summer.

3. Nan sezon lotòn, gen anpil van. → There is a lot of wind in the fall.

4. Nan sezon livè, li fè frèt. → It is cold in the winter.
