How to Use "Pou" to Show Ownership in Haitian Creole

Intermediate Lesson

local_library What You Will Learn

You will learn how to use the word pou (for) to form expressions such as for me and for you in Creole.

The Creole word pou means for.
You can use it to show that something is intended for someone. In some contexts, it can also show that something belongs to someone.

Therefore, in situations where you would normally use the word for in English, use pou when speaking Haitian Creole.

For example, the Creole sentence Se pou Pierre means It's for Pierre.

Depending on the context, a sentence such as Se pou mwen may mean either It's for me or It's mine.

Consider These Examples

1. Se pou mwen → It's for me

2. Se pou ou  → It's for you

3. Se pou Nadege → It's for Nadege

4. Se pou Frederic → It's for Frederic
